comic & process: prothonotary

it's just hard to say ok

As spring migration passes through the Midwest, feral swarms of warmth-starved Chicagoans can be seen pointing upwards to the tallest trees. These groups of strangers murmur in uncertain tones, "Tennessee? No, orange-crowned?" as we rub our brain cells together, trying to recall the few warblers we memorized last spring.

Although prothonotary warblers are quite easy to recognize, they are harder to pronounce on the spot without losing or adding a syllable. If we can't consistently say it, then certainly the birds can't. Read on to learn how the comic was made.
